Dear Mr. James

I am interested in the engraver instructor position advertised in The Employment Daily. I am currently a self-employed engraver with at least 200 years of experience. I believe that I am well suited for the position because of my education background and working experience in engraving.

My earlier exposure to art was at Henry Par's Drawing School in 1767, whereby I learned to sketch human figures based on plaster casts of ancient statues. In 1771, I began a seven-year engraver apprenticeship with James Basire. It was during this apprenticeship that I was exposed to Gothic styles. Furthermore, I have also engaged in several important and significant art commissions - the illustrations on the Book of Job and Dante's Inferno.

In response to your search for an engraver instructor, I believe my experience in engraving would qualify me for consideration. I would be able to provide you current samples of my work upon request.

To further acquaint you with my qualifications, I am enclosing my resume. I hope you will consider me for this position. I look forward to meeting with you and discussing my qualifications in more detail.

Sincerely,

William Blake
